Among forest products, cinnamon forest is known as a specialty tree of the tropics, a tree for
economic growth and has long become one of Vietnam’s exports. Today, over the decades,
especially since Vietnam’s renovation and opening up, the Vietnamese cinnamon tree has
become very famous around the world.
Brief about cinnamon
Cinnamon price is much higher than that of other agricultural products, and especially when
the world’s demand for cinnamon and cinnamon products is increasing, on the other hand,
cinnamon sticks became a valuable commodity due to its properties.
Depending on the new soil for essential oil, the production capacity is limited, so cinnamon sometimes has a monopoly on price. This is a huge advantage of Vietnam. Only a few countries in the world
as China, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia have favorable natural conditions for
cinnamon production.

Therefore, the price of cinnamon is very high and the efficiency of
cinnamon production is much higher than agricultural production. Vietnam cinnamon trees
have many favorable conditions for development, but the current cinnamon production
industry is too small and backward, the laborers in the cinnamon industry are mainly ethnic
minority households.
There has not been a large investment, so productivity and quality are
not high, so it cannot meet the needs of the domestic and export markets. Vietnam’s
cinnamon export industry is still too small compared to its potential and only stops at raw
export, so the turnover is still very modest in the total export turnover and compared to other
agricultural and forestry products.

Cinnamon forest Yen Bai province – Vietnam
It took us more than 6 hours climbing the mountain on motorbikes to reach the forest with
the largest cinnamon production in Yen Bai. This land has many advantages for growing
cinnamon trees such as: High mountains, 300-700m altitude, annual average temperature of
about 22.7 degrees Celsius, heavy rainfall, high humidity. There are places where the rainfall
is up to 3200mm, the humidity is 84%.

As a result, this place becomes the cinnamon growing area with the largest planting area
and cinnamon bark output in the country. Particularly, the output of 4 districts of Van Yen,
Van Chan, Van Ban and Tran Yen can account for 68% of the cinnamon growing area of the
whole Yen Bai province.
